With the advent of the monsoon season (finally!), our rock yards and sidewalks have started to sprout little green things - weeds! They really look pretty ugly, and certainly detract from property values and appeal and, believe it or not, it is YOUR legal responsibility to get rid of them - whether they're in your yard, along your sidewalk, or in the space between your property and the street/curb. This includes ALL sides of your property, even the sides with cement walls. Don't just take our word for it - here are the official city code ordinances that say so:
§ 9-8-4 GROWTH OR ACCUMULATION.
It shall be unlawful for any owner of any occupied or unoccupied lot or tract of land within the city to permit or maintain on any such lot or tract of land, including the area located between the property line and the middle of the alley adjacent to the property, and the area located between the property line and the curb, the area of any curbs or sidewalks located on the property, and the area located ten feet outside the property line where there is no curb, any growth of weeds whose height, width or spread is greater than four inches, or any accumulation of weeds.
('74 Code, § 6-15-4) (Ord. 89-1967; Am. Ord. 40-1968; Am. Ord. 32-1976; Am. Ord. 4-1992; Am. Ord. 57-2005)
§ 9-8-5 DUTY OF OWNER, LESSEE, OR OCCUPANT.
It shall be the duty of any owner of any occupied or unoccupied lot or tract of land to cut the weeds and remove the cuttings or any accumulation of weeds to be removed as often as necessary in order to comply with the provisions set out in § 9-8-4.
('74 Code, § 6-15-5) (Ord. 89-1967; Am. Ord. 32-1976; Am. Ord. 4-1992)Please - help us all out, and WEED YOUR PROPERTY! |

Our next SRMNA neighborhood resident meeting will be held Thursday evening April 28th, at 6:30 pm, at the Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School cafeteria. All residents of the neighborhood are encouraged to attend - you do NOT have to be a paying member of the Association. The attendance at this meeting could determine what direction our Neighborhood Association will take in the future, and even whether or not the Association will continue at all!
There is a lot to talk about, and we will want to hold elections for our Board membership.
We have also invited the following guests:
- Misty Salaz, Community Representative for UNM Hospitals. Ms. Salaz will present the UNMH community "report card."
- Toby Baca of the Albuquerque Fire Department, with a talk entitled “I Didn’t Know the Fire Dept Did That Too." He will discuss the various services that the AFD provides for the community.
- Senator Bernadette Sanchez, our State Senator.
Light refreshments will be provided.
For directions to the meeting site, click here (MS Word document) or here (Google map).Come and meet your neighbors! See you there! |
